Object detection at Serbian level crossings, flagging hazards in the danger zone while there's still time to act on them.

Level crossings fail in a narrow, predictable window: something is on the track and a train is close. This system watched for exactly that — object detection identifying vehicles or people in the danger zone, feeding alerts to rail operators.
Deployed across level crossings in Serbia, in collaboration with Huawei.
Timing defined the whole problem. A detection that arrives after the train does is worthless, so the useful metric was how early a hazard could be called with acceptable confidence — not raw accuracy.
